What would I be doing in sessions?
Assisting a licensed occupational therapist with small groups of 2 to 5 kids in the woods! You would be the therapist’s extra set of hands, to help ensure safety and encourage calm engagement with therapy activities and social interactions with peers.
What would I be doing out of sessions?
You’ll help with clean up after each group, such as washing the dishes from our snack. You may be asked to help acquire or prep materials needed for groups. This might include printing, laminating, shopping, or organizing.
Anything else I would be doing?
Learning! You’ll get an inside look at what occupational therapy looks like outside of clinics, hospitals, and schools. You’ll get experience interacting with neurodiverse families. You’ll come to understand the power of nature connection and the importance of sensory processing. You’ll have a chance to ask questions about OT or starting/running a business.
What ages of kids would I be working with?
Potentially, quite a range! We currently have groups for children 4–15, and are always open to expanding to younger and older clients.
What great people would this NOT be a good fit for?
As we use a relationship-based approach and collaborative problem solving, if your philosophy is more strict or focused on rewards/consequences, you may not be happy in this position. As we are taking groups of kids into the wilderness, if you don’t have a track record of being impeccably responsible and able to calmly handle safety issues, this job would be a poor fit. And as we’re parent-empowering, if you have a burning itch to criticize parents, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere!
What might make an applicant stand out?
Do you radiate kindness? Do you connect easily with kids? Do you have a deep appreciation of nature and the ability to help kids calm down and advocate for themselves? Any of that would be particularly impressive.
I’m interested! What do I do next?
Send an email to info@nintherapy.com with your resume and a cover letter explaining why you would be a good fit for us. We look forward to connecting with you!
